Celestial Globe

Curving grids, swirls and circular forms found in maps are the inspiration for celestial images and are used to convey our connection to the universe. The images play on the surface as the repeated globe like patterns flow around the axis of this almost perfectly round vessel. Earth tones are punctuated by the black endless space. The canvas for this artwork is a lightweight dried gourd, which is first dried, opened, and emptied of its seeds. A protective matte varnish is then applied, preserving the colors and finish. The vessel has a display stand, enabling viewers to appreciate the various combinations of patterns from every angle.
