Desert Spiral
This mixed-media sculpture is a combination of a raku-fired vessel with felted sculptural elements. It displays remarkable texture, created while the clay is wet on the potter's wheel. It was fired with a process that introduces carbon into the clay body creating the black surface and metallic glazes. The felted sculptural elements began with merino wool, whose fibers were shrunk with warm soapy water and agitation in order to create a tight fabric around a metal armature. Finally, the piece was beaded, each bead hand-sewn. The result is an extraordinary work of art ready to grace any tabletop.
- One-of-a-kind piece
